The Commonwealth Club has awarded its annual scholarship to two outstanding Montclair High 2008 graduates, Hannah Maddrey, who will attend Vassar College, and Brandyn Cooper, who is headed for Wesleyan University.
"The Club is proud to honor and recognize Hannah and Brandyn for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the school and community," said Commonwealth President Richard F. McMahon III. "We wish them all the best."
The Commonwealth Club Scholarships -- $500 grants given annually to both a female and male senior -- pay special tribute to concerned young adults whose community spirit and actions inspire others.
Hannah was in the top 5% of the senior class at Montclair High and is eager to pursue fiction-writing at Vassar. She rowed crew for the Mounties for three years. She was a member of the French Honor Society, Key and Culinary clubs, and served as president of the Jewish Student Union.
Brandyn plans to pursue studies in economics at Wesleyan and play baseball there. Among his other achievements, he was named a recipient of the prestigious National Achievement Scholarship and volunteered in a number of community service initiatives. He was named to one of the all-Essex County baseball teams by The Star-Ledger and also played soccer for Montclair High.
