Welcome to www.commonwealthclub.net, the Web site of The Commonwealth Club, one of New Jersey's
oldest social clubs. A few years ago, we referred to The
Club as Montclair's best-kept secret. That's not
the case today. An infusion of new members, along with
continuing investment in our facilities and programming,
has helped return The Commonwealth Club to its rightful
place among the area's most spirited organizations. While
its goals have evolved since its inception in 1904, the
primary purpose remains to promote sociability and good
fellowship among the members of the community. New members
and guests are always welcome. And we are glad to offer
the facilities for rental use.
The Club features a six-lane private bowling alley.
Members bowl evenings once a week from September to May
in men's and women's leagues. In addition, The Club stages
various tournaments and mixed events for bowlers. In the
Board Room, there's a tournament pool table, card
tables and dartboard, while in the Bar, a shuffleboard
table is the main game. The Club's social calendar includes
numerous events for members, their families and friends.
The Club is also home to dance and drama classes.
Rentals
The Commonwealth Club has undergone extensive renovation to meet the needs of member and community users alike, but its turn-of-the-century charm remains undisturbed. The Club can accommodate affairs for as many as 200 people.
The Northview Room, with its brass chandeliers,
high ceiling and hardwood floor, is the Club's centerpiece,
ideal for dances, wedding receptions, meetings, business
presentations or less formal events.
Adjacent is the spacious Foyer with Mission-style furnishings. With a vaulted ceiling
and fieldstone fireplace, it's just right for cocktail
parties and other small affairs, or as additional space
for larger events. The Living Room's 50-inch TV is popular
for viewing movies and major sporting events like the Super Bowl and NCAA Baseketball Tournament.
Through the Foyer's French doors is our mahogany
Bar, featuring brass rails, high-back chairs, cable
TV and a new shuffleboard.
Our well-appointed professional Kitchen
will make it easy for you or your caterer to prepare a
memorable meal for your guests. The Studio, also
featuring hardwood flooring, provides additional room
for seating, dancing, serving, music and larger events.
Our bowling alleys are often rented for events such as
children's birthday parties. The Club is fully air-conditioned
and offers ample parking.
We hope you'll agree with what we've believed for
a long time - that The Commonwealth Club enjoys a unique
place among social institutions in our area. If you haven't
stopped by lately, I invite you to visit The Commonwealth
Club and let us show you around.
With warm regards,
